About Clarensys

Finance Works Best When Everyone Sees the Same Picture

Clarensys Consulting was built from more than fifteen years across international finance, regulated businesses and organisations undergoing change.

The experience spans financial accounting, management and regulatory reporting, internal controls, internal and external audit, SOX environments, finance operations, transformation, business partnering and senior finance leadership — progressing from detailed financial delivery through to advising CEOs and senior management on finance strategy, performance, risk and decision-making.

Why Clarensys Exists

Built From the Problems Businesses Actually Face

Finance problems are rarely caused by accounting alone. They are often created in the gaps between people, systems, jurisdictions, responsibilities and expectations.

A local team understands the business but may not fully understand what international head office expects. Group finance knows what it needs to report but may not see the operational reality of the local entity. Statutory accounts, management reporting, consolidation and regulatory reporting may each operate to different rules and timetables.

Add external accountants, payroll providers, banks, auditors, legal advisers, customers and operational stakeholders across several countries, and even technically capable finance teams can become fragmented.

Clarensys exists to bring those moving parts back into alignment.

Patterns Seen Repeatedly

Where Good Finance Functions Start to Break

The organisations and industries change. The underlying problems are remarkably familiar.

Reporting Without Alignment

Local accounting, management reporting, consolidation and regulatory reporting evolve separately until several versions of the same financial reality have to be reconciled under deadline pressure.

Growth Outrunning Process

Processes that once worked become dependent on manual intervention, spreadsheets and individual knowledge as transaction volumes, entities and stakeholders multiply.

Cross-Border Misunderstanding

Local teams and international management believe they have agreed on the same requirement — only to discover at reporting deadline that they understood it differently.

Acquisitions That Never Fully Integrate

An acquired business continues using its own reporting, systems and working practices while the group expects different controls, timelines, governance and management information.

Many Providers. No End-to-End Owner.

Accountants, auditors, payroll providers, banks, advisers, legal counsel and operational teams each own one part of a process while nobody owns the whole finance outcome.

Regulatory Requirements Without Operational Foundations

A regulatory obligation may be understood conceptually but not yet translated into reliable reconciliations, reporting, evidence, controls, governance and practical ownership.

International finance collaboration across different business cultures
International Finance

The Numbers May Be Universal. The Way People Work Is Not.

Cross-border finance is not simply the same accounting performed in different countries. Expectations around hierarchy, escalation, challenge, decision-making, documentation and deadlines can differ substantially between organisations and cultures.

Experience across European and international environments has included working with teams and stakeholders spanning France, the UK, Malta, Japan, Singapore and wider EMEA.

Working professionally across languages creates an additional sensitivity to those differences. When neither language nor working culture can be taken for granted, requirements need to be explicit, assumptions checked and understanding confirmed.

Clarensys treats that communication as part of effective finance leadership. The objective is to ensure that expectations, responsibilities and financial requirements are genuinely understood on all sides.

Working Across Borders?

When Local Reality and Group Expectations Stop Matching

If teams, reporting requirements or responsibilities are starting to drift apart across jurisdictions, a short conversation can often identify where the real finance problem sits.

Experience Across the Finance Function

A Finance Career Built From the Detail Up

The experience behind Clarensys developed across the finance function rather than within one narrow specialism. It began in financial accounting and statutory reporting, expanded through management and group reporting, regulatory finance, internal and external audit, SOX controls and governance, and developed into finance operations, transformation, business partnering and senior finance leadership.

At senior level, that has meant not simply producing reliable financial information, but challenging it, explaining what it means, advising CEOs and senior stakeholders, supporting strategic decisions and ensuring that finance remains connected to the wider business.

That breadth matters because the visible problem is not always the real problem. A management-reporting issue may originate in the chart of accounts. A regulatory-reporting issue may actually be a reconciliation problem. A difficult external audit may expose weak controls or unclear ownership. A SOX finding may point to an operating-model problem rather than an isolated control failure.

Clarensys approaches finance as a connected function rather than a collection of isolated outputs.

Experience Across Accounting Frameworks and Jurisdictions

International finance rarely operates within one accounting framework. Clarensys brings practical experience across IFRS, UK GAAP and a broad range of European national accounting environments, together with the reporting bridges required between local statutory accounting, group policies and consolidation.

This includes multi-entity environments where statutory accounts, management information, regulatory requirements and group reporting all need to converge under demanding deadlines.

The challenge is often less about knowing that different accounting frameworks exist and more about designing reporting processes capable of producing reliable information under several sets of requirements at the same time.

Particular Experience in Regulated Finance

In fintech, payments, banking and insurance, finance often sits at the intersection of accounting, safeguarding, reconciliations, liquidity, regulatory reporting, governance, internal controls, audit and operational finance.

Clarensys has particular experience in regulated and control-sensitive environments where finance processes need to work operationally while also standing up to internal control review, external audit, compliance and regulatory scrutiny.

Where legal or regulatory interpretation is required, Clarensys works alongside the appropriate compliance, legal or specialist advisers while helping translate agreed requirements into functioning finance processes.

A Preference for Difficult Problems

Complex Situations Are Where Real Progress Can Be Made

Some finance assignments begin with a clearly defined project plan. Others begin with a spreadsheet nobody trusts, a reporting deadline approaching, an audit already underway, an acquisition that has not integrated properly or a finance function carrying years of accumulated workarounds.

Clarensys is particularly comfortable with the second category. There is a genuine interest in understanding why something stopped working, separating symptoms from causes and rebuilding the process in a way that remains useful after the immediate problem has been solved.

The assignment does not need to arrive neatly packaged. Part of the work can be establishing what is actually wrong, what matters first and what a sustainable solution should look like.

The Mission Behind Clarensys

Finance Should Connect the Business — Not Become Another Source of Friction

Businesses do not always need another permanent executive. Sometimes they need experienced finance leadership through a period of change, a cross-border integration, a regulatory requirement, a transformation project or simply a situation that needs senior ownership and a clear way forward.

Clarensys is built around a simple principle: understand the situation, determine what matters and make the solution work in practice.
